Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State (5-21) split a doubleheader with Dickinson State (17-11) losing game one 8-5 and taking the nightcap 5-3. Tyler Oliver (1-1) pitched six innings in game two, allowing only one hit in the first four and three throughout as he picked up his first win of the season. The win snapped a six game losing streak for the Wolves.
Northern State fell in game one 8-5 after allowing five unanswered runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Wolves led 5-3 after a four run third inning. The Wolves took advantage of Blue Hawk errors as all four runs were unearned. Mike Paulson belted a triple to right center, which scored Justin Downes from first base. Paulson scored on the triple after an errant throw to third base.
The Blue Hawks would come within one in the fourth and take the lead back for good in fifth after scoring three runs. The Wolves had three errors in the inning allowing the runs. The Blue Hawks added an insurance run in the sixth to hand the Wolves their sixth straight loss.
Matt Sisk got the start for the Wolves and went three innings with a no decision. Sisk gave up three runs on six hits. Jackson Strain (0-2) took the loss after going two innings giving up four runs (one earned) on four hits. Tom Keiser went the final two innings giving up one run on three hits.
In game two the Wolves got a solid pitching performance out of their starter and some run support early. The Wolves scored a run in the bottom of the first and two in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. They would add another run in the fourth and sixth after a ten hit performance. Raymond Rodriquez, Adam Kampsen and Paul Gerrish all had two hit games. Kampsen was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored while Rodriquez was 2-for-4 with a double two RBI and a run scored. Gerrish was 2-for-2 in the game with a RBI. Kampsen also picked up his first save as he pitched the top of the seventh in 1-2-3 fashion.
The Wolves return to NSIC play this Thursday and Friday when they travel to St. Paul to take on Concordia St. Paul in doubleheader action both days starting at 12:00 p.m.
