Wolves Swept By Beavers - 5th Place Out of Reach

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State (9-36, 0-16 NSIC) was swept by Bemidji State (10-33, 3-13 NSIC) by the scored of 13-3 and 6-4 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Fossum Field. The Wolves are now unable to catch the Beavers for fifth place in the league as they will look to secure sixth place with a win tomorrow.

Game one was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when Matt Reich (1-7) got himself in trouble by walking the second hitter and then hitting the third batter to put runners on first and second with one out. A pair of singles occurred giving the Beavers a 2-0 lead. They would add three more runs in the inning after back to back errors by the Wolves to lead 5-0. The Beavers added three in the fifth and five more in the sixth to get the 13-3 win.

Reich would go one more inning as he finished the day with eight runs (six earned) allowed on ten hits. Andrew Corre came in for an inning and gave up five runs (three earned) on five hits while walking two. Tom Keiser finished the game with a perfect seventh inning.

Mitchell Locke went 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored while Christian Tavarez went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Justin Downes belted a solo homer in the sixth inning, his eighth of the season.

Tony Klaers was a menace to the Wolves as he went 3-for-4 with five RBI and three runs scored including a grand slam in game one.

Game two was a tale of walks. Bemidji State pitchers walked and hit only two batters while the Wolves pitchers combined for five walks and two hits batsmen. Justin Downes (0-6) took the loss as he went 5 2/3 giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits while walking four and hitting two of the 28 batters he faced.

Paul Gerrish and Adam Kampsen both went 2-for-4 with a RBI.
