Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State (11-36, 2-16 NSIC) finished their season off on a high note as they swept Bemidji State (10-35, 3-15 NSIC) in both teams season finales. The Wolves won game one 3-1 and game two 8-2 as they picked up their first two NSIC wins of the season.
The Wolves got things going in the first inning of game one as the first two batters reach on eight consecutive balls. Paul Gerrish then bunted the runners over to second and third. Justin Downes smacked a line drive off the pitcher’s leg to get the infield hit and score the first run of the game. Mike Paulson then bunted home Adam Kampsen on a suicide squeeze to make it a 2-0 game. Tom Keiser kept things going with an infield single to score the Wolves third run of the inning.
The Beavers scored their lone run in the top of the fifth after a double to left. A pass ball advanced the runner to third and a sacrifice fly to center scored the run.
Gerrish pitched a gem for the Wolves as he improved his record to 3-7 on the season. Gerrish went all seven innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out six.
Game two the Wolves used a six run second inning to get the early advantage on their way to a 8-2 win. Mike Paulson (4-4) got the win as he gave up two runs on six hits.
Kampsen and Downes both went 3-for-4 in game two. Kampsen had two RBI and three runs scored as he finished the season batting .416.
Tom Keiser hit a two run triple as he went 2-for-3 in the game.
