Wolves Lose Double Dip to Mustangs

JOPLIN, Mo.. - The Northern State Wolves (2-7) were unable to get their third win on the season on Thursday March 8th, as they lost both games of a double header to the Mustangs of Morningside College (4-7). In the first game the Wolves lost a heartbreaker 6-5 in 10 innings and in the second game the Mustangs defeated the Wolves 9-3.

In the first game the Wolves found themselves trailing after the first innings as Morningsside's Brett Hoch hit a two run bomb. The lead was brief as Northern State tied things up in the second inning. In the top of the fourth innning the Wolves Tyler Oliver smashed a two run single to give the Wolves the lead 4-2. The lead was very brief for the Wolves as Morningside would answer with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game 4-4. In the top of the fifth inning Adam Kampsen would hit a home run to give the Wolves their last lead of the game 5-4. Adam Kampsen had three of the Wolves eight hits in the game.

The Mustangs would tie the score in the bottom of the seventh, then in the bottom of the tenth they would use a two-out walk, a stolen base and a base hit to score the winning run.

In the second game of the double header Morningside used a six-run fourth inning to open the game up. The Wolves would score one run in the third, sixth, and seventh innings. Tom Kohl had three hits and Brett Hoch had two to lead Morningside. For the Wolves Mitch Locke singled twice and Tom Keiser had a solo home run in the third inning. Matt Tales also added an RBI single in the seventh for the Wolves.

The Wolves will play Findlay University on Friday March 9th at 9:00 a.m. in a double header to end their spring trip.
