ABERDEEN, S.D.- The Northern State Wolves were unable to keep up with the SW Minnesota State Mustangs today in Wayne, Neb. The Mustangs ran away with two conference victories defeating the Wolves 12-5 in game one and 9-1 in game 2.
Game 1
In game one the Mustangs jumped all over the Wolves as they took a commanding 9-0 lead after the forth inning. The Wolves would come back to score four runs in the top of the fifth but it was a little to late as the Mustangs held on to win 12-5.
The Wolves were led by Mitch Locke who went 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Matt Geissler and Adam Kampsen both went 2-for-4 for the Wolves. The Mustangs were led by three players who had three hits as Cook and Laughlin each went 3-for-5 with 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Koppi went 3-for-4 for the Mustangs with 1 RBI and 1 run scored in the game.
Mike Paulson went five innings for the Wolves giving up 16 hits, 10 earned runs, while striking out 5. With the lose Paulson falls to 1-3 on the year. Linstron was the winning pitcher for the Mustangs as he improves to 4-0, while pitching 6 innings giving up 8 hits, 4 earned runs and striking out 4.
Game 2
In game two the Wolves would jump out to an early 1-0 lead, but the offense would not produce as they would fall 9-1.
In the second game the Wolves only had two hits one from Matt Geissler and one from Andrew Lunsetter. The Mustangs would get 11 hits in the contest. Leading the way was Kinney as he went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. West went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Tyler Bauman would get the loss falling to 0-2 on the year. Bauman pitched 3 innings giving up 6 hits and 4 earned runs. Wilhlmi got the win for the Mustangs improving his record to 2-0.
The Wolves will be in action again on April 6th when they play Wayne State in Wayne, Neb. Games times are set for 1:30 and 3:30.
