BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Wolves and the Beavers played the second day of baseball alot like the first. The Wolves were able to pull out a victory in the first game 11-4 and then the Beavers used five runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the 8-7 come from behind victory. Northern State is (8-26, 4-14 NSIC) and Bemidji State is (5-27, 3-11 NSIC) after the weekend series.
Game 1
Northern State used 21 hits in game one of a double header with Bemidji State to get a 11-4 victory. The Wolves scored five runs in the third inning and four in the fourth to pull away from the Beavers.
Justin Downes pitched a complete game giving up 9 hits, 4 earned runs, while striking out 3 batters. With the victory Downes improves to 4-4 on the year.
Downes helped himself at the plate as he went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Adam Kampsen, Tom Keiser and Mitch Locke all went 3-for-4 in the game. The Beavers were led by Stoloski as he went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored.
Allar got the loss for the Beavers as he went 2 2/3 innings giving up 9 hits and 4 earned runs. With the loss Allar falls to 0-3 on the season.
Game 2
The second game of the day was a thriller as the Wolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead going into the third inning. The Beavers would chip away at the lead scoring one run in third, fourth and fifth inning but still trailed 4-3. In the top of the seventh Northern State would score three runs to lead 7-3 with only a half an inning left to play. It looked like the Wolves would get a sweep on day two but the Beavers had other things in mind. Bemidji State scored 5 runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the thrilling 8-7 victory and salvage a split on the weekend.
In the game the Wolves were led by Adam Kampsen as he went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Mike Paulson would go 2-for-3 in the game scoring a run and batting in 2. The Beavers were led by Stoloski as he went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored.
Adam Kampsen would get the loss for the Wolves as he pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up 4 hits and 3 earned runs. Kampsen falls to 0-3 on the season. Meech got the win for the Beavers as he went 2/3 of an inning giving up 2 hits and one earned run. Meech improved to 2-3 with the victory.
Northern State will be in action again on April 18th when SW Minnesota State comes to town for a double header. Game times are set for 2:00 and 4:00 pm.
