ABERDEEN, S.D.- Northern State's baseball team picked up their first home wins of the season Wednesday afternoon, keeping UM-Crookston winless on the year by taking the 9-4 and 9-2 victories. The Wolves improve to 10-32 and 6-6 NSIC while the Golden Eagles are now 0-32 and 0-21 NSIC. Northern hosts Concordia-St. Paul in four games this weekend.

The Wolves had leads in the twinbill with Minnesota Crookston nearly the entire afternoon and out-hit the Golden Eagles in both games played, finishing the day with a 19-12 hitting margin. Their nine runs in each game is the most scoring produced by NSU in eight games.

Junior Brock Pashen (Morris, MN) gained the first win after striking out seven batters and giving up the four earned runs. The Wolves' defense went without an error and gave Pashen plenty of run support. The scoring began in the second inning as Justin Downes (Atwater, MN) led off with a double and was later scored by Payton McCleary (Calgary, Alberta). Three unearned runs came in that inning to put NSU up 3-1. Up 4-3 later in the game, Northern produced a big sixth inning to pull away from UMC. They tagged on five additional runs with two RBI each going to Mitch Locke (Groton, SD) and Aaron Kappes (Leola, SD). Northern finished with a 9-4 win. Kappes went 2-for-4 in the game with three RBI and one un, Locke went 2-for-3 with his two RBI, and Jamie Paul (Paynesville, MN) batted 1-for-1 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Picking up the win in game two was Tyler Oliver (Seward, NE) who struck out ten batters, a season high for any NSU thrower, while giving up just four hits and two earned runs. Both UMC runs came in the first inning, but Pashen settled down and pitched to just three batters in each of the next four inning and shutout the Golden Eagles for the remainder of the game. Northern scored in four of six innings at bat and despite hitting just one extra base knock, came up with nine runs. McCleary and Keiser each went 2-for-3 from the plate and Kampsen led the Wolves with three RBI, including two sac flies.
