NSU'S PETERSON CLAIMS FIRST AT NSU ROE GRANGER INVITE October 11, 2002 ABERDEEN, S.D. -- Northern State's Kristin Peterson became the first runner from NSU to claim the top individual spot in the Roe Granger Invitational since 1988 with a first place finish at the 2002 event held on Friday at Lee Park Country Club. Peterson finished with a time of 19:59 edging Kris Boekelheide (Unattached NSU) by one second. Jamestown's Nikki Guck took home third place honors. NSU's Kayla Garry finished in 20th with a time of 21:30 while Lindsey Lesnar came in at 22nd (21:44). The Wolves finished in third place as a team on the women's side with Jamestown claiming team honors and Black Hills State taking second. BLACKBEAR LEADS NSU WITH FIFTH PLACE FINISH AT ROE GRANGER October 11, 2002 ABERDEEN, S.D. -- NSU's Delbert BlackBear finished with a fifth place finish to pace the Northern State men at the 2002 Roe Granger Invite. BlackBear came in with a time of 27:56 to lead the Wolves in this year's event. Dakota State's Ted Sees edged Jamestown's Ryun Hess for individual honors on the day. Sees came in with a time of 27:44 while Hess finished just four seconds behind. Northern's Jerry Clark finished in 24th on the day with a time of 29:38 while Myles Richards and Mike Larson finished in 29th and 30th place for the Wolves, respectively. NORTHERN STATE CROSS COUNTRY OPENS SEASON AT SD TECH INVITATIONAL September 14, 2002 RAPID CITY, S.D. -- The Wolves' cross country teams made their first road trip to Rapid City to train for the 2002 season. Kristin Peterson, junior from Arlington, S.D., highlighted the women's team finishing 7th overall with a time of 21:03. Nick White led the men finishing in 30:18 and in 27th place. Myles Richards 33:21 WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM AMONG NATION'S ACADEMIC BEST February 15, 2002 For the seventh consecutive year, the Northern State University women's cross country program has been recognized as an NCAA II Academic All-American Team by the United States Track Coaches Association (USTCA). NSU's women's team ended the 2001 season with a 3.42 team GPA. The members of the 2001 cross country team: Kristin Peterson (Arlington, S.D.), Jackie Peterson (Arlington, S.D.), Liz Koenig (Fairfax, S.D.), Alyssa Siegfried (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Jessica Fox (Watertown, S.D.), Lisa Charboneau (Richland, Wash.), Jennie O'Doan (Martin, S.D.) and Kayla Garry (Garretson, S.D.). NSU's women's cross-country and track and field teams are mainstays among the Division II academic elite. The women's track and field program has earned the USTCA academic honor in each of Northern's six full years under the NCAA II umbrella, and the cross-country program has also never missed earning the team academic award.
