Eric Hunt Head Cross Country Coach Assistant Track and Field Coach
Hunt, a 1996 graduate of Derby High School in Derby, KS., earned a B.S. degree in Biology at Southwestern College in Winfield, KS in 2000. While at Southwestern, Hunt participated in 10 NAIA national meets (three cross country, three indoor track and field, and four outdoor track and field). He was a four time all-conference team member for cross country and a three time conference champion in track and field (5K and steeplechase twice). Prior to his time at NSU Hunt was the head cross country/head track and field coach at Sterling College in Sterling, KS for the 2001-02 season.
Coach Hunt served as an assistant coach at Northern State during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons and finished his Masters Degree in Teaching and Coaching. In 2004-05 Hunt assumed the Head Cross Country coaching duties for the both the men’s and women’s squads as well as assistant coaching duties for the middle distance and distance runners on the track and field team. In his first year as the Head Cross Country Coach his men’s team won the NSIC meet and he was named NSIC 2004 Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. During the past four years his cross country athletes have earned 13 All-NSIC awards and one NSIC Athlete of the Year award. His track and field athletes have set five school records, earned All-NSIC selections 18 times, earned one NSIC Athlete of the Year award and one NSIC Newcomer of the Year award.Strength and Conditioning Coach Derrick Budig
Northern State strength & conditioning coach Derik Budig has propelled Wolves' athletics to new heights thanks to his comprehensive strength program that has been implemented into the NSU athletic system.
Before coming to Aberdeen, the Yankton, S.D., native was at the University of Texas, at El Paso (UTEP) as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach. He has also served as a strength and conditioning consultant for Olympic track and field athletes in El Paso. Prior to his time at UTEP, Budig was an intern for the National Football League's Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the area of strength and conditioning.
Budig has also had success on the football field where he was a four-year starter and two-year team captain for Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Budig is in charge of developing and coordinating programs which assists student/athletes in developing overall physical strength and conditioning at NSU. He also organizes the weight room for all of Northern's athletic programs, is the sponsor for NSU's FCA and is the coordinator of the Wolves Challenge strength and conditioning program.
