ABERDEEN,
S.D. - Northern State University recruit Tyler Lee will play
football instead of basketball next year for the Wolves. Lee,
an all-state performer in both sports for Roslyn High School,
was an early signee for the Wolves basketball program last
November.
"I really
thought about it the last couple months and just decided that
in my heart I want to play football," Lee said. "I think I
can become a better football player than I can a basketball
player."
Said NSU
head men's basketball coach Don Meyer: "Tyler is a great person
and a great athlete. He decided to go with what's in his heart
and no one can blame him for that. We support his decision
and hope he does well for our football program."
An all-state
quarterback, Lee led Roslyn to the state championship as a
senior, earning the Joe Robbie MVP award in the championship
game. He will join senior Roslyn teammates and 2002 football
recruits Justin Henning and Andy Snaza at Northern.
"We're
very excited about Tyler's decision to join the football program,"
NSU head football coach Ken Heupel said. "It's something we
certainly didn't expect after he signed early with the basketball
program, but Tyler was one of the top football players in
the state last year and we feel very fortunate to have him.
Whether it's basketball or football, you love to have an area
kid with his character and ability in your athletic department."
