HEADLINES SEVEN WOLVES ON NSIC POST-SEASON ALL-CONFERENCE

MINN. - Northern State linebacker Jason Carson (Jr., 6-0,
200, Hacienda Heights, Calif.) headlines a list of seven Northern
State football players to be given post-season recognition
by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference for the 2002
season.

on the 2002 All-NSIC team:

Carson

Jason
Carson Linebacker (Jr., 6-0, 200, Hacienda Heights,
Calif.) All-NSIC First Team NSIC Defensive Newcomer of
the Year
NSU linebacker
Jason Carson was voted as the NSIC Defensive Newcomer of the
Year and was the only Wolves player placed on the All-NSIC
first team for 2002. The junior was second on the squad with
79 tackles and led NSU with 15 tackles for loss. Carson also
led Northern with five sacks, nine pass break ups, two fumbles
recovered and was tops in the NSIC with five forced fumbles.
Carson also held the fifth spot in NCAA II in fumbles forced.
Carson was named as the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week
on Sep. 23 and was also honored in the same week by Don Hansens
Football Gazette for his performance against Wayne State that
saw him return a fumble and an interception for touchdowns.
Carson, in his first year with the Wolves was a transfer from
Mt. Sac Junior College where he was first team All-Valley
in 1999 and helped his team to the CIF Division 5 Championship.
James
Mansfield Tight End (So., 6-2, 225, Norris, S.D.)
All-NSIC Second Team
James
Mansfield was named to the All-NSIC second team in his sophomore
stint with the Wolves. Mansfield was fourth on the team in
receiving catching 19 balls for 299 yards and two touchdowns.
Owen
Olson Punter (Jr., 6-0, 185, Denver, Colo.)
All-NSIC Second Team
Owen
Olson punted 55 times for the Wolves in 2002 gaining an average
of 37.2 yards per kick. His average ranked second in the NSIC.
Olson booted two kicks over 80 yards this season nailing an
86-yarder against Augustana and an 81-yarder against Winona
State. Olson place 17 of his kicks inside the 20 yard line
this season.
Deacon
Burns Punt Return Specialist (Fr., 5-8, 185, Brownwood,
TX) All-NSIC Second Team
Deacon
Burns proved to be one of the most productive newcomers for
NSU this season. The freshman returned 32 punts on the year
for an average of 11.6 yards per return. Deacon ranked fourth
in the NSIC in punt returning this season and was 31st in
NCAA II in the category.
Casey
Knutson Offensive Tackle (Jr., 6-4, 310, Shakopee, Minn.)
All-NSIC Honorable Mention
Casey
Knutson was solid up front for the Wolves in 2002 leading
the NSU offensive line in his junior season. Knutson recorded
94 pancakes on the season for the Wolves and anchored a line
that allowed NSU to rush for over 170 yards per game.
Jake
Parten Quarterback (Sr., 6-2, 220, Sioux City, Iowa)
All-NSIC Honorable Mention
Jake
Parten was named All-NSIC honorable mention after his senior
season where he was 162-for-314 passing for 2,465 yards on
the season. Parten also threw for 24 touchdowns on the year
and netted a 132.57 quarterback efficiency rating. Parten
also rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns on the year.
He finished his career at NSU by throwing for over 300 yards
in his final four games.
Justin
Briese Linebacker (Jr., 5-10, 210, Pierre, S.D.)
All-NSIC Honorable Mention
Justin
Briese led NSU in tackles compiling 90 on the season for the
Wolves. Briese also recorded 12 tackles for loss, five sacks,
one interception and one fumble recovery. Briese ranked in
the top ten in tackles in the NSIC in his junior season.
