WOLVES
SPOIL WAYNE STATE HOMECOMING IN 47-10 ROUT
October
4, 2003
WAYNE,
NEB. - The Northern State Wolves steamrolled for 485 yards
of offense in the second half and 646 yards on the day
as they improved to 4-1
on the season with a 47-10 rout over Wayne State (Neb.)
on Saturday.
The
Wolves found themselves up just 3-0 after the first quarter
and 10-0 at the halftime break but located their potent
offensive attack in the third quarter as they stretched
thier lead to 26-0 with 1:57 to play in the period.
The
Wildcats tried to creep back into things with a 42 yard
scoring strike to end the third but Wolf touchdowns by
Charlie Johnston, Matt Wagner and Josh Martin to start
the fourth would thwart any Wildcat rally.
Of
the Wolves 646 total yards, most were generated by the
arm of freshman quarterback Toby Korrodi who went 20-of-29
throwing for a career high 384 yards and three touchdowns.
Included in his total was NSU's longest play of the year
in a 73-yard strike to Josh Martin in the fourth quarter.
Martin
led the Wolf receivers hauling in six catches for 186
yards and two touchdowns on the day. Charlie Johnston
was also in the mix with five receptions for 89 yards
and a score on the game.
NSU's
rushing attack remained strong as well with the Wolves
gaining 204 yards on the ground. Ronnie Cruz measured
his third 100-yard rushing game in a row with 19 carries
for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Cruz has now found the
endzone in each of NSU's four wins this season.
Defensively,
Jason Carson stopped a team high 11 ball carriers while
throwing three Wildcats for losses. Charles Williams also
came up big for the NSU "D" with ten tackles
and three sacks on the day as the Wolves held Wayne State
to just 348 yards on the day.
Northern
State (4-1, 2-0 NSIC) will return to Swisher Field to
face Minnesota, Crookston on Oct. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
