Wolves Devourer Golden Eagles 64-13
Aberdeen, S.D. (Swisher Field) - Northern State (5-5, 4-2 NSIC) rolled past Minnesota, Crookston (0-10, 0-6 NSIC), tying the school record for points in a game as they won 64-13. That record was set back in 1969 when the Wolves racked up 64 points against Black Hills State.
Northern State attacked Minnesota, Crookston early and often as they scored on their first six possessions of the game as they built a 43-0 lead with 9:23 left in the second quarter after a Mike Stamps 33 yard touchdown reception from John Russell.
Minnesota, Crookston would eventually get on the board as John Obarski (Burnsville, Minn.) connected on a 37-yard field goal with 6:30 left to play in the second quarter. Northern State would keep the pressure on as they scored once more before half on a 7 yard run by John Russell to put the score at 50-7 going into halftime.
Jon Russell connected on 13-16 passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns, he also ran for three touchdowns on the afternoon.
Una Latu blocked an RJ Rollins (Anchorage, AK) punt with 1:44 left in the third quarter to put the Wolves up 64-3. The Golden Eagles would answer back with another Obarski field goal this time from 24 yards away. That put the score at 64-6 with 12:44 left in the game.
The Wolves would not score anymore, but Minnesota, Crookston running back RJ Rollins would scamper 80 yards on some nifty running to make the score 64-13. RJ Rollins rushed 23 times for 179 yards on the day. He also broke the career rushing record at Minnesota, Crookston that was held by Mark Olsanawski.
Wade Ginsbach caught 5 passes for 61 yards and 2 touchdowns and Turner Johnson caught 4 passes for 53 yards and a touchdown for the Wolves.
Leading the Wolves defensive was Veaila Tupou who recorded seven tackles; he also had one tackle for a loss and one fumble recovery. A.J. Hill and Josh LeBrun each had six tackles to help the Wolves to victory.
The Wolves take on Southwest Minnesota State next Saturday, November 5 th at 8:30 p.m. in the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. for their final regular season game.
