Northern State football is midway through their spring practice and new head coach Chris Boden has them already competing. Not against other teams but against themselves in a series of team building activities. On Thursday, April14 th he had the teams push a truck through the parking lot of the Barnett Center, quickest time earning 100 bonus points for their team.
“I am big into team building. What we did is split the team up and compete in a variety of events. The intentions of the competitions is to have some kids step up as leaders and also give them a chance to compete, laugh and have some fun,” said Boden.
The squad is split up into six teams of eight. The events are set up to include an assortment of skills, including speed, strength and strategy. Thursday was the truck push, last week was the wall sit and next week is tug of war. The top two teams at the end of spring will compete in the championship game of dodge ball to determine the winner.
“The whole purpose of this is to build unity and have fun and hopefully this will carry over to next fall when we open up against Mayville State,” added Boden.
Northern State University (located in Aberdeen, SD) is an NCAA Division II institution a
nd a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
