WOLVES OVERPOWER COUGARS

Oct. 3, 1998

Northern State got back on track Saturday with a 39-14 win at Minnesota-Morris.

Sophomore running back Tyrone Morgan (Wichita Falls, Texas) ran roughshod through the Cougar lines of defense, piling up 343 all-purpose yards on the day. Morgan returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and racked up 230 yards and two more touchdowns rushing.

On the power of Morgan's three touchdowns, NSU led 22-8 late the third quarter. Morris made it interesting with an 85-yard interception return late in the third quarter to pull within 22-14, but junior quarterback Tom Ramerth (Minneapolis, Minn.) came back strong on the Wolves' next possession to direct an 11-play, 67-yard drive that effectively put the game away.

Defensively, senior Naki Angilau (Kearns, Utah) is fitting in nicely at middle linebacker. In his second start, the transfer student has led the team in tackles the past two games. Against Morris, he had 10 unassisted and one assisted stop.
