WOLVES OBLITERATE COUGARS

Jan. 23, 1999

Northern State dominated every phase of the game in a 101-78 blowout of Minnesota-Morris Saturday night in the Barnett Center.

Morris (1-16, 0-4 NSIC) owned a 4-2 lead in the first minute of the game, but that was as close as the upset bid would come. The No. 6 Wolves (14-4, 4-0 NSIC) went for the jugular after that and never let go, effectively ending the game in the first half by building a commanding 60-37 lead going into the locker room.

The Cougars never pulled inside 20 points in the second stanza, while NSU went on cruise control and netted six players in double digits. With Ryan Miller, who as a senior last season became NSU's first ever NCAA II First-Team All-American, in attendance, brother Jared Miller (Mitchell, S.D.) led NSU with 23 points to go along with eight rebounds. The sophomore reserve guard, ranked 38th in the nation in scoring (19.7 ppg), has led NSU in scoring the last four games.

After struggling from the field on the Wolves' three-game road swing, junior sharpshooter Dan Fischer (Bagley, Minn.) found his mark at home, draining five 3-pointers en route to 19 points. Junior point guard Scott Hanson (Tolna, N.D.) was close to an uncoventional double-double, leading the Wolves in both rebounding and assists with nine apiece. Hanson also led the team with three steals to go along with five points.

NSU's post players also dominated, with sophomore center Ben Dahl (Cottonwood, Minn.) netting 17 points and freshmen posts Andy Foster (Caledonia, Minn.) and Brad Hansen (Tea, S.D.) adding 15 and 10 points, respectively. Foster also had seven boards and a couple foundation-shakin' gorilla slams to the delight of the 4,000 fans in attendance.
