The Wolves may have taken on a new look, but the result was the same: another unceremonious dispatching in Wachs Arena, this time with a 97-65 win over Mount Senario Tuesday night. The win moves NSU's winning streak at home to 19 and brings the season record to 4-0.
NSU, sporting new home uniforms and warmups, shot 55 percent from the 3-point line (11-20) to help distance themselves from the Fighting Saints. Mount Senario hung tough for the first 10 minutes, but Northern State proved too much for the NAIA school which has won three national championships in the 1990's.
The Fighting Saints led by as many as four points out of the gate, but a 15-15 tie with just over 10 minutes left in the half was the point of no return. NSU took control with a 34-12 run to end the half and take charge of the game.
Junior guard Dan Fischer (Bagley, Minn.) led the charge with a 7-of-12 3-point barrage and 27 points. His effort fell just one shy of his career scoring high, which was set against Chadron State as a freshman.
Sophomore sparkplug guard Jared Miller (Mitchell, S.D.) added 20 points and three steals. The other player to reach double figures in scoring for NSU was junior point guard Scott Hanson (Tolna, N.D.), who netted 12 in addition to a team-high seven assists. Senior forward Mark Rich (Aberdeen, S.D.) led the board crew with 10 rebounds, including six offensive caroms.
Larry Taylor led Mount Senario with 18 points.
