WOLVES FEND OFF HURON 78-66

After racing out to a 43-29 halftime advantage, 12th-ranked Northern State held off hard-charging Huron University 78-66 in Aberdeen Saturday night to improve to 8-3 heading into the holiday break.

Junior guard Dan Fischer (Bagley, Minn.) scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds to pace NSU. Senior forward Kyle Johnson (Coon Rapids, Minn.) also tallied the team-high eight boards to go along with eight points. Sophomore guard Jared Miller (Mitchell, S.D.) scored a game-high 19 points. Sophomore center Ben Dahl (Cottonwood, Minn.) and junior point guard Scott Hanson (Tolna, N.D.) scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, to round out NSU's double-digit performers.

The Wolves shot 53 percent in the first half to grab a comfortable lead heading into the lockeroom. But Huron wouldn't go away, pulling the margin to as close as three points with over nine minutes remaining. Sean Pell led the Screaming Eagles with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort.
