Northern State held off a late run by Concordia-St. Paul to defeat the Golden Bears 66-60 in the Barnett Center Friday night.
NSU (7-9, 4-4 NSIC) built a 32-25 halftime edge and led by 12 points with five minutes remaining but watched C-SP whittle the lead down to five at 63-58 with just under two minutes left in the game. From there, the Wolves made a few key defensive stops and iced the game with clutch free throws from freshmen Nick Schroeder (Osseo, Minn.) and Sundance Wicks (Gillette, Wyo.).
C-SP (6-12, 2-6 NSIC) was led by Josh Delich's career-high 24 points. Senior guard Scott Hanson (Tolna, N.D.) led NSU with 14 points and six rebounds, seemingly taking charge whenever NSU's young team needed him to. Sophomore post Andy Foster (Caledonia, Minn.) and freshman post Ben Rops (Lennox) rounded out NSU's double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
NSU takes on conference top dog Winona State (8-0 NSIC) Saturday in the Barnett Center at 7:30 p.m.
