Wayne State College (Neb.) started out hot and kept on fire the entire game in its 86-63 win at Northern State Saturday night.
The Wildcats (13-5, 8-3 NSIC) shot over 60 percent from the field for the game, including 67 percent in the second half, to stave off Northern's second-half comeback attempts.
The Wolves (8-11, 5-6 NSIC) trailed 40-33 after the first half and looked to be making a game of it in the second, drawing a tie with WSC at the 17 minute mark. But the Wildcats were too much, and an offensive drought by NSU that began midway through the second half and lasted until the end of the game turned a seven-point deficit (55-62) at the 11:04 mark into a 27-point hole (57-84) with under two minutes to play.
NSU was led by freshman guard Nick Schroeder's (Osseo, Minn.) career-tying
high 16 points. Senior guard Scott Hanson (Tolna, N.D.) added 15. Freshman
forward Sundance Wicks (Gillette, Wyo.) scored NSU's first eight points
and ended with 13. Brad Joens led five Wayne players in double digits with
18 points.
