Maybe the biggest positive Northern State can pull from its 83-66 home loss to University of North Dakota is that even with the rigorous schedule the Wolves have before them this season, they won't face a team any better than what the Sioux played Wednesday night in Wachs Arena.
UND (5-0) shot 50 percent from the field for the game and didn't let the Wolves within 10 points the last 10 minutes of the game. NSU cut the margin to six points with about 13 minutes remaining, but it was as close as the score would get. UND answered NSU's mini-surge with a 15-4 run of its own and never looked back. The Sioux were led by Chad Mustard, who equaled a season high with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Four UND players scored in double digits.
One of the highlights for the Wolves (2-3) was junior center Ben Dahl (Cottonwood, Minn.) who attacked the rim to equal a season and career high 18 points to lead NSU. Dahl also finished with six boards. Senior forward Dan Fischer (Bagley, Minn.) led the Wolves in rebounding again with eight boards. Junior guard Jared Miller (Mitchell) netted 15 for NSU, while freshman Sundance Wicks (Gillette, Wyo.) recorded a career-high 13 points to go with six rebounds.
As tough a team as UND was to face Wednesday night, the Wolves' immediate
future offers no relief. NSU travels to South Dakota State Saturday in
what is sure to be a packed Frost Arena. The Jacks edged Southwest State
by a point in Marshall, Minn. Wednesday.
