Northern State got off to a quick start but saw a 15-point halftime lead whittle away in the second half and in the end were edged in overtime 86-89 at Minnesota-Duluth Saturday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action.

NSU (11-11 overall, 7-7 NSIC) shot well over 50 percent in the first half, but fell off in the second as Duluth heated up on the team's Parent's Night.

UMD (11-13, 10-4) earned its first lead with just over three minutes remaining in the game. From there, the teams went back and forth. Six straight clutch free-throws by junior forward Houston Reed (Olathe, Colo.), junior guard Roland Williams (Ft. Worth, Texas) and senior post Ben Dahl (Cottonwood, Minn.) helped force the game to overtime.
