A second-half scoring drought did the Wolves in Saturday night in a 99-78 home loss to South Dakota State.
After going into halftime down 44-41, the game continued to be a hard-fought affair in the second half until until the Wolves went almost five minutes just scoring three points. That Jackrabbits took full advantage of NSU's offensive lapse, scoring 13 points in the same five-minute stretch to open a more than comfortable 18-point lead at 81-63 with six minutes remaining.
Also playing in the Jacks' favor all game was their domination of the boards. SDSU outrebounded NSU by a whopping 52-33 margin. That included 17 offensive rebounds for the Jacks.
Five Wolves scored in double digits, led by sophomore forward Sundance
Wicks (Gillette, Wyo.) and junior post Brad Hansen (Tea), who both scored
12. Wicks also tied a team high with six rebounds to go with three steals.
Junior forward Houston Reed (Olathe, Colo.) also grabbed six rebounds.
He and junior post Andy Foster (Caledonia, Minn.) scored 11 points apiece.
Rounding out NSU's double-digit scorers was sophomore guard Nick Schroeder,
who netted 10 points. SDSU was led by Josh Cerveny's 22 points. The Jacks
shot 57 percent from the field as a team, while Northern shot 41 percent.
