The Wolves fell to Southwest State, led by pre-season All-American Scott Koenen, in a hard fought game, 81-90. Koenen led the Mustangs with 22 points and seven rebounds.
NSU started out playing well, taking a 16-10 lead early in the first half. But after that, it was almost all Southwest. The Wolves twice held one-point leads early in the second half, but both leads were short-lived as the Mustangs answered with buckets both times. The Mustangs then pulled away late in the fourth quarter, taking an 11-point lead with just under six minutes left. After that, the Mustangs lead never fell below five.
The Wolves were led by sophomore sensation Sundance Wicks (Gillette, Wyo.) with 21 points, four assists and nine rebounds. Wicks was also deadly from 3-point land, going 4-of-8 from long range. Junior forward Brad Hansen (Tea, S.D.) chipped in with 19 points and seven rebounds. Junior point guard Roland Williams was also hot from downtown, hitting 3-of-4, and finishing with 11 points. Junior Drew Gruver (Scott City, Kan.) also had 11 points in his first-ever start for the Wolves.
The Wolves are now 3-5 overall and 0-2 in NSIC action. The Wolves
are set to host Mount Senario College (Ladysmith, Wis.) on Monday, Dec.
11 at 7 pm.
