WOLVES
OVERPOWER WAYNE STATE
Feb. 2, 2002

Posterized
-- Senior post Andy Foster throws down one
of his three dunks against Wayne State Saturday night. |
Northern rebounded
from a disappointing loss Friday night with a convincing 90-65
win over Wayne State (Neb.) Saturday night in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference game at NSU's Barnett Center.
The Wolves
and Wildcats played a competitive first half, but NSU outscored
WSC 51-33 in the second stanza. With senior post Brad Hansen (Tea)
getting into early foul trouble and playing just 12 minutes, fellow
senior post Andy Foster (Caledonia, Minn.) more than picked up
the slack with 15 points and seven rebounds. As a team, the Wolves
shot 53 percent from the field for the game and out-rebounded
the Wildcats by 11.
With the win,
NSU improved to 15-6 overall and 10-3 in the NSIC. The Wolves
are in second place in the conference and just a game behind Minnesota-Duluth
for the conference lead.
Junior forward
Sundance Wicks (Gillette, Wyo.) led all scorers with 20 points
to go with five rebounds and four assists on the night. Wicks
also went 4-of-8 from the 3-point line. In all, five Wolves reached
double digits. WSC (6-14, 3-10 NSIC) was led by Levi Cahill's
14 points.
NSU has a
tough road trip next weekend, traveling to Minnesota-Crookston
and Minnesota State-Moorhead.
