WOLVES SUFFER FIRST LOSS OF SEASON AT NORTH DAKOTA STATE

Nov. 25, 2001

Northern State had a chance to win or tie with a shot as time elapsed, but it wasn't to be in a 68-70 loss at North Dakota State Sunday night.

The Bison (2-1) handed Northern (3-1) not only its first loss of the season, but also its first time being out-rebounded this year. NDSU held a 44-31 edge in that category. Even more painful to NSU fans who made the trip to Fargo: 15 Bison offensive rebounds, many of which were converted to second-chance points by NDSU's Josh Richardson, who grabbed seven offensive caroms. Richardson had 15 points and 12 rebounds on the night to lead NSU.

NSU's offense provided open looks most of the night, but the Wolves never found the range from dowtown, going just 5-of-22 from 3-point range (23 percent). Senior post Brad Hansen (Tea) led all scorers with 19 points. Junior forward Sundance Wicks (Gillette, Wyo.) had the best all-around game on the team, scoring 11 points and pulling down eight rebounds while helping hold NDSU main offensive threat Denver TenBroek to 3-of-10 shooting. Senior guard Drew Gruver (Scott City, Kan.) scored 16 points.

Northern returns home to face St. Cloud State Wednesday.
