ABERDEEN,
S.D. - The Northern State men's basketball team ran up a season
high 98 points on Dakota State en route to their second win of
the season, 98-62 over the Trojans.
Dakota
State stayed close early on as the Wolves saw just a one-point
lead 7:32 into the game. But Northern heated up, quickly expanding
its lead to 20 points on a 26-7 run to make the score 46-26 with
4:28 to go in the first.
Dakota
State ended the first half on a 6-0 run to make the halftime tally
51-38 Wolves.
The
Wolves bumped up their lead to 68-42 by the 13:37 mark but, as
Northern ended the game on an 18-4 run, the Wolves built up the
36-point victory.
--Dustin
Hjelmeland scored 22 for the Wolves going 8-of-11 from the field
and 5-of-8 from three-point range.
--Aaron
Busack, Dan Lund and Adam Grant each pulled down six rebounds
for the Wolves.
--Steve
Smiley led the team with six assists on the night.
--There
were 58 fouls committed in the game.
--Northern
shot an impressive 61.2 percent from the floor on the night. They
were 41 percent from behind the arch.
--NSU
hosts North Dakota State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
