FALLS TO SOUTH DAKOTA IN SECOND STRAIGHT OVERTIME LOSS

S.D. - The University of South Dakota Coyotes handed Northern
State's men's basketball team its second straight overtime loss
on Saturday night, 95-88 in Vermillion, S.D.
Northern
State, plaing in its third straight overtime match-up, was outscored
by South Dakota 22-14 in the extra period following a knotted
up ballgame, 73-73, after 40 minutes of play.
The
Coyotes led by as many as eight in the first half and never gave
up its lead until the 15:51 mark in the second period when NSU
mounted an 11-1 run to give the Wolves a ten-point advantage with
13:24 to play. But USD came back to reclaim the lead 72-71 with
3:29 to play.
The
Wolves would tie the game at 73 with 1:33 to play on two Jarod
Obering free throws. Neither team was able to score in the final
90 seconds and the game moved to the overtime period.
The
extra frame was all Coyotes, however, as USD would take the lead
on a Josh Mueller three just :24 into overtime and would not allow
the Wolves back in it and held on for the 95-87 victory.
--NSU's
Sundance Wicks scored a career high 28 points and tied a career
high with 11 rebounds. He was 6-of-10 from three-point range.
--NSU's
Jarod Obering posted a career high eight assists.
--USD's
Tommie King had a career high 29 points and added 11 rebounds.
--Wicks
posted his third straight double-double and his fourth of the
season.
--Northern
State (3-3) plays at North Dakota on Wednesday in Grand Forks,
N.D.
