BUSACK GOES OFF FOR 34 IN OVERTIME LOSS TO WINONA STATE

Freshman Aaron Busack hit for a career high 34 in Monday's overtime loss to Winona State.

Winona, Minn. - Northern State true freshman Aaron Busack hit for a career high 34 points on Monday night but it was not enough to overcome a Winona State three-point barrage as the Wolves suffered their third overtime loss of the season 103-97.

The Warriors controlled the game for the majority of the first half but never led by more than eight at any time. The Wolves captured the lead, however, with :43 to play in the first before WSU's Nate Coleman hit a shot before the buzzer to give Winona a 46-45 advantage at the break.

The game would go back and forth in the second half as the teams were knotted up eight separate times in the period.

Winona State held an 82-81 lead with 1:34 to play in regulation when Jarod Obering hit to put the Wolves up one with just over a minute to play. The Warriors countered, however, as Eric Doster hit a three with :13 left to put WSU up 85-83.

Northern had one last chance to tie and senior Sundance Wicks came through hitting a jumper at the buzzer to send the game to an extra period.

The score was tight in the second until WSU's Doster hit a three-pointer to put the Warriors up 98-94 with 1:40 to play. NSU closed within three with a Jarod Obering free throw but WSU built its lead back up to six with :21 to play. Northern would only be able to make one basket while WSU hit two free throws to claim the 103-97 victory.

--NSU freshman Aaron Busack hit for a career high 34 points going 14-of-21 from the floor. Busack's 34 marks the highest point total of the season for any Wolves individual.

--NSU boasted three other players in double-figures as Jarod Obering hit for 15, Sundance Wicks and Nick Schroeder each had 13 and Dustin Hjelmeland hit for 12.

--Northern shot 52.9 percent from the floor while Winona shot at a 54.1 percent clip. The Warriors hit 16-of-30 three-pointers on the night.

--Northern outrebounded Winona State 39 to 30.

--Steve Smiley and Aaron Busack each gathered ten rebounds on the night.

--NSU (4-6, 1-1 NSIC) will host Wayne State on Friday night in a 7:30 tipoff.
