WOLVES FALL TO BEMIDJI STATE IN HOME CONFERENCE TILT

January 18, 2002

Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State men's basketball team suffered an 82-77 setback to Bemidji State in NSIC action on Saturday night in NSU's Wachs Arena.

The Wolves trailed for the majority of the first half before Nick Schroeder pulled up from long range and hit a three just before the halftime buzzer to tie the game at 37-all heading into the locker room.

Northern held a brief lead early in the second but Bemidji reclaimed the advantage with 17:29 to play in the game and never allowed the Wolves back in it.

Bemidji extended the lead to as many as ten but NSU cut it to two twice in the period but the Beavers would hold off any Wolf rally to claim the 82-77 victory.

Sundance Wicks pulled down a career high 16 rebounds for NSU on the night. He completed the double-double with ten points as well.

The Wolves were led by Dustin Hjelmeland who threw in 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor. Steve Smiley posted a game high eight assists on the evening.

BSU saw five players in double-figures highlighted by a 21-point performance by Adam Daley.

NSU (9-7, 6-2 NSIC) will host Minnesota-Morris on Jan. 25.
