Grant posted career highs with 22 points and nine rebounds to
lead the Wolves past Si Tanka Huron in a 77-72 game on Friday
night in Wachs Arena.
Things
remained close for most of the first half with Northern State
only gaining a lead as large as six at any time during the period.
The Screaming Eagles were able to close the Wolf lead to three
points and bring the halftime score to 39-36.
NSU
never relenquished the lead in the second half but the Eagles
soared back into the game closing within one on several occasions.
NSU pulled away leading 53-46 with 14:52 to play when they made
a 7-0 run to make the lead 14 points at the midway point of the
final period.
Huron
would not go away in the half, however, after falling behind by
16 with 4:56 left on the clock, the Screaming Eagles made a 13-2
run to bring the score to 74-69 with :29 left to play.
Following
an Adam Grant layup and free throw, Si Tanka hit a three-pointer
with seconds remaining to close the scoring with NSU on top 77-72.
Grant
led all scorers with 22 points and paced the Wolves on the boards
with nine on the night. Fellow sophomore Matt Hammer added 15
points and eight rebounds while Aaron Busack and Taite Plaas chipped
in 12 and ten points, respectively.
The
Wolves forced 26 Huron turnovers on the night while committing
just 18 of their own. NSU shot at a 44.8 percent clip but lost
the rebounding battle 47-41.
With
the win, the Wolves extended their home court winning streak to
11 games.
Northern
State (4-0) hosts Mt. Marty College on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
in Wachs Arena.
