January 30, 2004

Tate Plaas - Sophomore

Wayne, NE - The Northern State University Men's basketball team hit the road after a six game homestand looking for their first road win of the year. Bolstered by a six-game winning streak, the Wolves had quite a bit to be confident about. Then again so did the Wayne State Wild Cats. Wayne boasted the nation's top three-point shooting team and with them in their own gym, the Wolves had to be ready for the challenge.

Matt Hammer Sophomore

The Wolves would continue to get strong play from Sophomore Matt Hammer. Hammer would miss only one shot from the field on the night going 10-11. Hammer would end the night with 25 points and five rebounds.

The Wolves would also get strong play from Sophomore Tate Plaas. Plaas would score 14 points and grab five boards. The Red Wing, MN native shot a perfect 7-7 from the field.

With the Wolves jumping out to some early leads and shooting with blistering accuracy, post players Adam Grant and Aaron Busack saw limited time. Both posts found themselves in early foul trouble, but were both able to put together decent games. Grant put in 12 points and grabbed six boards while Busack, who only played 12 minutes, scored seven points and roped four boards.

As a team the Wolves hit 70.8 percent of their field goals and within that 58.3 percent of their three-pointers. NSU outrebounded the Wild Cats by a 31-22 clip and forced WSC into 12 turnovers.

The Wild Cats were led by Brett Watson. Watson put in 17 points and grabbed four rebounds. The Wild Cats shot a respectable 41.8 percent from the field and missed only one free throw on the night going 21-22 from the charity stripe.

The Wolves move to 14-5 overall and are 6-2 in league action. WSC is now 12-8 overall and drop to 6-3 in conference action. The Wolves face SW Minnesota State tomorrow night at 8:00 following the women's basketball game.
