NSU’S OBERING, HANSON EARN PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

ABERDEEN, SD - Northern State men’s basketball guard Jarod Obering and women’s basketball center Michelle Hanson each earned co-NSIC Player of the Week awards for their efforts in their past three ball games.

Obering, a junior guard from Beatrice, Neb., knocked down 15 three-point field goals leading Northern State to a 2-1 week in NSIC play. He scored 55 points in three games and led the team with an 18.3 scoring average as he hit 15-of-30 (.500) from long range including a career-high 29-point performance and nine three-pointers in the Wolves’ win over Southwest Minnesota State. Overall, Obering was 17-for-37 (.459) from the floor while hitting 6-of-8 from the free throw line. He also led the team with 12 assists and three steals in the last three games. He had 10 points in NSU’s win over Wayne State (Neb.) and scored 16 in the loss at Bemidji State. Obering currently ranks second in the NSIC in three-point field goals made and assist/turnover ratio and is fourth in steals.

Hanson, a junior center from Fargo, N.D., led the Wolves to three NSIC wins on the week, averaging 15 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest. She was 15-of-32 (.469) from the floor while hitting 1-of-3 from long range and 14-of-18 from the free throw line. She collected 31 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals on the week, as well. Hanson notched a career-high 13 rebound performance against Southwest Minnesota State. She scored 15 points and had her fourth double-double of the year in the win at Bemidji State and added eight points against SMSU. On the year, Hanson ranks ninth in the NSIC in scoring and fourth in rebounding.

The Northern State men’s and women’s teams will both host Minnesota-Duluth in a rare Thursday night event with tipoffs at 6 & 8 p.m.
