Aberdeen, S.D.– Northern State opened the 2004-05 campaign with a 81-38 win over the Dakota Athletic Conference’s (DAC-10) Mayville State Comets. The Wolves defense held the Comets to 15 second half points and 18.2% (4-22) shooting (26.7% in the game – 12 of 45)..
The Wolves had four players in double-figures; Aaron Busack ( Jr., C, Redwood Falls, Minn.) led the way with 14 points, Tony Birmingham (Sr., G, Moorhead, Minn.) had 13, Matt Hammer (Jr., G/F, Elkton, S.D.) had 12, and Bjoern Schoo (pronounced Show) (Jr., C, Germany) had 10 points and a game high seven rebounds in his Wolves début.
The Wolves, after fall behind 0-3 in the opening minute, went on an 11-2 run and never looked back as they opened up a 26 point halftime lead (49-23). The Wolves scored 27 points off 17 turnovers in the first half (35 in the game) compared to the Comets three in the entire game. The Wolves defense forced 26 turnovers and out-rebounded the Comets 33-27.
Wolves Head Coach Don Meyer won game number 794 in his career leaving him just six shy of the 800 mark.
