Aberdeen, S.D. - #16 Northern State zipped past Si Tanka (Huron) University 103-62 in front of over 1,500 fans in Wachs Arena. Eleven different players scored for the Wolves, including nine with eight or more points. The Wolves improve to 3-0 while Si Tanka falls to 0-7 on the season. NSU Head Coach Don Meyer wins game number 796, inching him just four games away from 800 in his career.
The Wolves opened up the game on an 11-0 run, before Si Tanka tighten the game at 11-8. With the score 22-18 and ten minutes to go in the first half, however, the Wolves went on a 40 to 8 run to lead 62-26 at the break. From there the Wolves coasted through the second half, with Si Tanka coming no closer than the 36 point half time deficit.
Matt Hammer (Jr., F, Elkton, S.D.) led all scorers with 23 points on 8 of 11 shooting, grabbed five rebounds and had four assists. Jarod Obering (Sr., G, Beatrice, Neb.) was second on the team with 13 points as he draws within 148 points of 1,000 in his career. Tony Birmingham (Sr., G, Moorhead, Minn.) and Dan Magrino (R-Fr., C, Pembroke Pines, Fla.) were both perfect from the field in the game as Birmingham had 11 points on 4 of 4 shooting and Magrino had a career high 10 points on 5 of 5 shooting.
The Wolves shot a ridiculous 63.3 % (38-60) from the field and out-rebounded Si Tanka 36-23. The Wolves snatched 13 offensive boards to 21 second chance points.
The Wolves host Jamestown College on Monday, November 22 nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Barnett Center. They then travel to Marshall, Minn. this weekend for a Thanksgiving Tournament where they will face North Dakota State and MSU Mankato.
