Wolves Down Augie

Sioux Falls, S.D. – Northern State holds on to defeat Augustana College 83-74 as Head Coach Don Meyer comes within one win of career victory number 800. The Wolves improve to 6-4, 0-0 NSIC while Augustana falls to 5-4, 0-0 NCC.

The Wolves were paced by Matt Hammer (Jr., F, Elkton, S.D.) who picked up his second career double-double. Hammer scored a game high 27 points on eight of 11 shooting. He grabbed 11 rebounds to go with five assists and four steals in 37 minutes of play. Aaron Busack (Jr., C, Redwood Fall, Minn.) was the only other Wolf in double figures as he put in 12 before fouling out.

The Wolves also tallied a team high in blocks this season as they put back seven Viking shots.

The Wolves shot 50% (16-32) from the floor while the Vikings were 10-29 (40%) shooting. The Wolves dominated the glass as the nabbed 40 rebounds, compared to the Vikings 29. The Wolves struggled from the free throw line early, but did well down the stretch as they finished the game hitting 22 of 23 (66.7%). Augie was 24 of 31 for 77.4% from the line on the night. A total of 52 fouls were called in the game, with Wolves Busack and Grant fouling out.

The Wolves improve to 6-3 overall while the Vikings fall to 5-4. The Wolves return to Barnett Center on Saturday, Dec. 11 th to take on Minnesota-Duluth at 8:00 p.m.
