Wolves Hold Off Wildcats - Meyer gets 100th Win at NSU
Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State won its eighth straight over Wayne State (4-8, 0-1 NSIC) as they down the Wildcats 74-66 as they improve to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The win marks Northern State’s Head Coach Don Meyer’s 100 th win at Northern State. Wayne State’s Brett Cain scored his 1,000 th career point in the game.
After a two-point game at the half (32-30) in favor of Northern State, the Wolves opened the second half on a 13-5 run to lead 45-35 with 14:44 in the game. The Wolves held off the Wildcats, as they were only able to come within five of the Wolves the rest of the game.
The Wolves were again led by Matt Hammer (Jr., F, Elkton, S.D.), who scored a game high 26 points on 9 of 20 shooting. Aaron Busack (Jr., C, Redwood Falls, Minn.) added 14 points and a team high nine rebounds, while Craig Nelson (R-Fr., G, Mayville, N.D.) tied a career high with 11 points.
Over the past six seasons, Don Meyer has won 100 games at Northern State University. Meyer reached the century mark in only 154 games, holding a win percentage of 64.9%. Meyer has won over 20 games each of the last three seasons after posting records of 13-14 and 14-13 his first two seasons at Northern State.
