Northern State won their fifth straight over SW Minnesota State as they downed the Mustangs 81-73 in front of 5,573 fans at Barnett Center. The Wolves were lead by Matt Hammer, who collected his third double double of the season as he netted 23 points, grabbed ten rebounds and dished out eight assists.
The Wolves dominated the first half as they opened up a 44-27 halftime lead. The Wolves hit 51.7% (15-29) of their shots, including 6 of 10 from downtown.
The Wolves leading by 20 with 11:05 to play went cold, as the Mustangs went on 9-0 run to cut the lead to 11 with nine minutes to play. The Mustangs continued to chip at the lead as they came within two with 4:21, but Hammer came alive, driving to the hoop and drawing the fouls. Hammer hit three free throws and had two late lay-ups to seal the Wolves win.
The Wolves had four players in double figures. Hammer scored a team high 23; Dustin Hjelmeland scored a season high 15 points and grabbed a season high nine rebounds; Jarod Obering added 11 leaving him 69 points from 1,000 in his career; and Bjoern Schoo scored ten of his own.
