Busack Leads Wolves To A Perfect 4-0 NSIC Start

Bemidji, Minn. – It took overtime to decide who would be the final undefeated team in the NSIC, and DustinHjelmeland’s three pointer with nine seconds left in overtime put the Wolves up for good as they went on for the 87-84 win. The Beavers had a chance to tie the game at the end of overtime, but missed two free throws in the final seconds. Northern State’s Aaron Busack (Jr., C, Redwood Falls, Minn.) dominated the game as the tied a career high with 30 points and grabbed a career high 15 rebounds. Busack also surpassed 1,000 points in his career at Northern State.

The game was a physical one as there were 47 fouls between the two teams, 30 on the Beavers. The Beavers had four players foul out the game. The Wolves missed there opportunity to win the game in regulation as they hit only 15 of 24 second half free throws, but redeemed themselves as they hit 7 of 9 in overtime. For the game the Wolves hit 68% (30-44) from the charity stripe while the Beavers were 16 of 23 (69.6%) from the line.

The Wolves also hurt themselves as they turned the ball over 18 times in the game compared to only five by the Beavers. The Beavers used those turnovers to scored 22 points.

Matt Hammer (Jr., F, Elkton, S.D.) scored 19 points in the game and tied a career high with 8 assists in 44 minutes of play. Hjelmeland (Sr., G, Staples, Minn.) added 18 of his own as he hit 4 of 8 three pointers and was six for six from the free throw line in 21 minutes of play.

The Wolves return to Barnett Center next Friday and Saturday to take on Winona State and Concordia St. Paul at 8:00 p.m.

Earns NSIC Player of the Week Honors

Aaron BusackAaron Busack (Jr., C, Redwood Falls, Minn.) eanred NSIC Player of the Week honor after he averaged a double double over the weekend as the scored 43 points and grabbed 20 rebounds as the Wolves remained undefeated in NSIC play. He dominated the game against Bemidji State as the tied a career high with 30 points and grabbed a career high 15 rebounds as he surpassed 1,000 points in his career at Northern State. Busack now has 1,010 points in his three years at Northern State. He is averaging 13.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg is in 75 games at NSU. He started 71 of those games.
