Bison Go on 20-2 Run in Second Half to Down Wolves

FARGO – Northern State went ice cold the last 15 minutes as they scored only 14 points as they fell 88-60 to North Dakota State. The Wolves held a three point lead with 15:00 to go in the game before going ice cold down the stretch. The Wolves fall to 14-5 overall, while the Bison improve to 9-11.

With 15:00 minutes to go in the game the Wolves began to take three pointers as though they were behind by ten with minutes to go. Over a stretch of just under seven minutes in the second half the Bison went on a 20-2 run where the Wolves committed four turnovers, four fouls, and missed six three pointers. From there the Bison led 63-48 with 7:35 to go, and continued to pour it on. The Wolves last basket came with 3:43 left in the game as they were handed their worst lost since an 86-54 loss to North Dakota on Dec. 10 th of 2003.

The Wolves shot 24 three pointers, connecting on only five in the game. They were also out-rebounded 44-28 and 17-10 on the offensive glass while turning the ball over 15 times.

The Wolves were led by Aaron Busack (Jr., C, Redwood Falls, Minn.) who dropped in 20 points on 9 of 13 shooting. He also grabbed six rebounds in 29 minutes of play. Matt Hammer (Jr., F, Elkton, S.D.) and Dustin Hjelmeland (Sr., G, Staples, Minn.) both added 13 points, while Hammer grabbed a team high seven rebounds and Hjelmeland had four.

The Wolves return to NSIC play this weekend when they host MSU Moorhead at 8:00 p.m. in Barnett Center.
