Jared Obering Hit Game Winner with 00:04 Left
ABERDEEN, SD - Northern State’s Jarod Obering hit a three pointer with 00:04 left to lift the Wolves to a 57-54 victory of MSU Moorhead. This marks the second game in eight days that the Wolves hit a game winner with under four seconds left to beat the Dragons. The Wolves improve to 15-5 overall and 7-1 in the NSIC while the Dragons fall to 6-15 overall and 1-7 in the NSIC.
Jarod Obering (Sr., G, Beatrice, Neb.), who had been struggling from three-point range as of late, made the one that counted. With the game on the line, and the defense sunk in, Obering was as cool as the Fonz as he knocked down the game winning three pointer with four seconds left. MSU Moorhead turned the ball over on the inbounds as the Wolves stay tied atop the NSIC at 7-1. Obering finished the night 3 of 6 shooting and 2 of 5 from three-point range.
Leading scorer and rebounder in the game was Northern State’s Matt Hammer (Jr., F, Elkton, S.D.) with 16 points and nine rebounds in 35 minutes of play.
The two teams were nearly identical most categories, but the Wolves did outscore the Dragons 13-0 on second chance points. Rebounding was equal at 34 and the Dragons had 19 turnovers to 15 for the Wolves. The Wolves did struggle from the free throw line as they hit only 9 of 18 attempts, while the Dragons hit 14 of 17 (82.4%) from the charity stripe.
The Wolves hit the road to take on Concordia St. Paul and Winona State next weekend. The Wolves only loss this season was a 88-76 loss to Winona State back on January 21 st.
