Northern State Runs Past University of Mary 70-57

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State (4-0, 0-0 NSIC) made it four in a row to open the 2005-06 season as they defeat future NSIC rival the University of Mary (4-4) 70-57 in front of 3,090 fans at Barnett Center. The Wolves improve to 10-5 in the all-times series with the Marauders.

Mary took six more shots than the Wolves, but the Wolves made five more than the Marauders and had a huge edge at the free throw line. For the game the Wolves shot 49% (27-55), but were 3 of 17 (17/6%) from three point range. At the line the Wolves were 13 of 17 (76.5%) but did miss twice on the front end of a one and one.

The Marauders were 22 of 61 (36.1%) and 10 of 28 (35.7%) from three point range. From the line the Marauders were only 3 of 4.

Leading the way in scoring for the Wolves was Matt Hammer (Sr., F, Elkton, S.D.) with 14 points and a team high six rebounds. Levi Hamilton (So., F, Lincoln, Neb.) had 12 while Dan DeWitt was third in scoring for the Wolves as she slashed with way to 11 points.

The Wolves continue their long home stand as they host the Super 8 / Bob Wachs Classic this Friday and Saturday. The Wolves take on Upper Iowa on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. and Minnesota State ( Mankato) on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. SW Minnesota State will take on Minnesota State Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and Upper Iowa on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. In Friday night’s game against Upper Iowa, Wolves coach Don Meyer will be coaching in his 1,200 career game.
