Hammer Lights Up Augie for Career High 41 Points
Meyer Tied for 7th in All-Time Wins

Aberdeen, S.D. – The majority of Elkton, S.D. was on hand to watch their hometown boys Matt Hammer and Eric Krogman do battle. The fans were not let down as Hammer scored a career high 41 points as #20 Northern State (9-1, 0-0 NSIC) knocked off in-state rival Augustana (5-6, 0-0 NCC) 103-92 in front of over 5,000 fans at Barnett Center. Northern State head coach Don Meyer tied Jerry Johnson for #7 on the all-time wins list at 823 career wins.

Hammer (Sr., F, Elkton, S.D.) scored his career high as he went 16 of 20 from the field, also both career highs. He was also one rebound shy of a double double. Krogman (Fr., F, Elkton, S.D.) had 12 points for the Vikings on 4 of 5 shooting.

This marks the first game this season that the Wolves have scored more than 100 points in a game.

The Wolves got out of the gate fast as they opened the game on an 8-0 run. Augustana battled back to take a one point led with thirty seconds left in the first half, before Hammer dropped in a lay-up with seven second left to put the Wolves up 44-43 at the break. Augustana had nine offensive rebounds in the first half that led to 10 second chance points.

The Wolves went on a 10-2 run with 11:00 minutes to play to take a 69-60 lead. The Wolves continued to pour it on and lead by as many as 16 with nine minutes left. Augustana chipped the lead to 10 with five to go, but the Wolves countered with 14-8 run over the next three minutes to put the game away.

The Wolves has ten second chance points of their own in the second half as they out rebounded the Vikings 21 to 14 in the second half. For the game Augie held a 35 to 32 edge on the boards, including a 15 to 12 edge on the offensive end.

Aaron Busack (Sr., C, Redwood Falls, Minn.) was second for the Wolves in scoring with 16, although he was only 6 of 11 from the free throw line. Craig Nelson (R-So., G, Mayville, N.D.) was 3 of 4 from three point range for 11 points, while Bjoern Schoo (Sr., C, Germany) had ten points, including a pass from the top of the key that banked off the glass and in for his first career three pointer at Northern State.

The Vikings had five players in double figure scoring, led by Joey Ryan and Mike Klepatz, both with 14.

Northern State returns to Barnett Center for their final non-conference game on January 2 nd when Jamestown comes to town. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
