Wolves Soar Past Golden Eagles

Aberdeen, S.D. – #6 Northern State (13-1, 3-0 NSIC) blew past Minnesota, Crookston (2-13, 0-3 NSIC) 82-53 in week two of NSIC play. The Wolves opened up a 43-24 halftime lead and build on that to improve their all-time record to 13-0 against the Golden Eagles.

The Wolves picked up their fifth win in a row and third in the NSIC. Head Coach Don Meyer won his 827 th game and is one win away from tying for sixth all-time in wins.

The Wolves got out of the gate fast as they built an early 11-4 lead five minutes into the game. The Golden Eagles would get as close as four at 18-14 with 8:41 left in the half, but the Wolves went on an 8-0 run over the next four minutes to build the lead to 12. The Wolves would end the half on an 11-1 run to lead 43-24.

The Wolves continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring the Golden Eagles 39-29 to go on for the win. The Wolves rested most of their starters the majority of the second half.

Leading scorer for the Wolves was Aaron Busack (Sr., C, Redwood Falls, Minn.) who poured in 19 points in point 12 minutes of play. Busack went 9 of 11 from the charity stripe and 5 of 7 from the field. Matt Hammer (Sr., F, Elkton, S.D.) scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and nabbed three steals in his 21 minutes of play. Kevin Ratzsch (R-Fr., F, Bloomington, Ill.) was the other Wolf in double figures with his ten points in 27 minutes of play.

The Wolves were out rebounded in the game 28 to 25, but the Golden Eagles turned the ball over 28 times amounting to 31 NSU points.

The Wolves stay at home to face Bemidji State (7-8, 2-1 NSIC) Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. at the Barnett Center.
