Wolves Out Rebound Beavers 38 to 18 in 87-75 Win

Aberdeen, S.D. – #6 Northern State (14-1, 4-0 NSIC) extended their home winning streak to 13 games as they defeat Bemidji State (7-9, 2-2 NSIC) 85-75 in front of 6,002 fans at the Barnett Center. With the win NSU Head Coach Don Meyer moves into a tie for sixth in all-time wins with Clarence (Big House) Gaines at 828 wins.

The Wolves led by two at the half 39-37 before opening the second half on a 19-5 run to take a 16 point lead at 58-42. During the run Craig Nelson hit three 3-pointers for the Wolves. The Wolves largest lead would be 17 points with 11:02 remaining.

The Beavers then started a run with an on slot of threes. The Beavers scored on their next six possessions, with four of them being three pointers to close the gap to six at 71-65 with 7:43 to go. The Wolves were able to weather the storm and keep the lead between six and ten points for the remainder of the game.

BSU had two players foul out in the game. Spencer Carter fouled out with 3:32 to go, while Derek Hollyfield took a seat with 00:48 left on a charge call.

The Wolves out rebounded the Beavers 38-18 overall and 15-6 on the offensive end in the game. The Wolves also were 20 of 24 (83.3%) from the free throw line while the Beavers were only 4 of 5 (80%) in the game.

Northern State’s Matt Hammer (Sr., F, Elkton, S.D) led all scorers with 21 points on 7 of 14 shooting. He was 7 of 7 from the free throw line, dished out six assists and had 6 rebounds in his 37 minutes of play. Hammer is now tied for 17 th all-time in scoring at NSU with 1,420 points.

Aaron Busack (Sr., C, Redwood Falls, Minn.) scored 16 points for the Wolves as he moved to #16 all-time in scoring as he as amassed 1,422 points in his career. CraigNelson (R-So., G, Mayville, N.D.) had four huge three points as he finished the night with 17 points, while Adam Grant (Sr., F, Berthold, N.D.) added 11 hard fought points.

Northern State hits the road next weekend as they travel to #23 Winona State and Concordia St. Paul. Both games set for 8:00 p.m.
