Adam Grant Scores 10 of Wolves 12 in Overtime

Aberdeen, S.D. - #13 Northern State (16-2, 6-1 NSIC) needed an extra five minutes to knock off MSU Moorhead (12-7, 2-5 NSIC) in overtime 84-77 at Barnett Center. The wins ties Don Meyer for 5 th on the all-times win list with Jim Phelan at 830 wins. Four Dragons fouled out in the game.

The Wolves seniors played a huge roll in the win. All four scored in double figures and all had six or more rebounds. Aaron Busack (Sr., C, Redwood Falls, Minn.) and AdamGrant both scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Grant scored 10 of the Wolves 12 points in the overtime. Matt Hammer (Sr., F, Elkton, S.D.) added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists while Bjoern Schoo (Sr., C, Germany) had ten points and seven boards in only eight minutes of play.

The Wolves led by seven with 1:45 left before the Dragons went on a 9-0 run to take a 72-70 lead with 20 second left. The Wolves missed a shot with 20 seconds left and put Cedrick Hensley on the free throw line. Hensley hit his first one to put the Dragons up two. He missed his second one and fouled Matt Hammer on the rebound. Hammer hit two free throws with 19 second left to tie the game at 72. The Dragons missed a last second shot for the win.

Three Dragon fouled out in regulation and another joined them in the overtime.

In the overtime neither team scored for the first 1:30. Adam Grant hit a pair of free throw to put the Wolves up by two. The Dragons would tie the game at 77, but the Wolves would score the last seven points of the game all but two coming from free throws.

Craig Nelson (R-So., G, Mayville, N.D.) also added ten points and six rebounds for the Wolves. Kyle Schwan (R-So., G, Aberdeen, S.D.) tied a career high with seven assists in the game.

The Wolves out rebounded the Dragons 46 to 28 and 16 to 13 on the offensive end. Both team shot the ball well with the Wolves hitting 27 of 58 (46.6%) from the field and the Dragons 27 of 63 (42.9%).

The Wolves were 27 of 36 (75%) from the free throw line but only 3 of 17 (17.6%) from three point range. The Dragons conversely were 15 of 23 (65.2%) from the line and 8 of 20 (40%) from downtown.
