MATT HAMMER SCORES 10 IN INAUGURAL 2006 NCAA DIVISION II/NABC DIVISION II ALL-STAR GAME

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – Northern State forward Matt Hammer scored 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting to help lead the West Team to a 134-122 win over the East Squad in the NABC Division II All Star basketball game on Friday, March 24 th in Springfield, Mass. The game was held during the Division II Elite Eight Men's Basketball Championships, which NSIC member Winona State won.

Hammer played 21 minutes, scored ten points, had two assists and a rebound while going 2-of-4 from three point range. Hammer’s 21 minutes was tied for third on the team and his .667 shooting percentage was tied for fourth best on the West Team.

The West Team jumped to a 62-58 halftime advantage and outscored the East Team, 72-64, in the second half. Ryan Diggs led all scorers with 25 points, hitting 5-of-7 three point field goals to lead the West squad. Walt Baxley had 19 points for the East team.

This was the inaugural Division II All-Star game, which featured 20 (10 on each squad) of the top Division II players in America.

NORTHERN STATE'S MATT HAMMER NAMED TO INAUGURAL 2006 NCAA DIVISION II/NABC DIVISION II ALL-STAR GAME IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE NCAA DIVISION II MEN’S ELITE EIGHT IN SPRINGFIELD, MASS.

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee has announced the teams for the inaugural NCAA Division II/National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Men’s All-Star Game. The all-star game will be held at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Friday, March 24 at 7 p.m. (ET) in Springfield, Mass.
Northern State senior forward Matt Hammer (Elkton, S.D.) was one of two players from the North Central Regional to be named to the team. He will join North Central Regional Player of the Year Turner Trofholz of the University of South Dakota on the West Team.
Hammer was named to the NCAA North Central All-Region Tournament Team, the NSIC All-Tournament Team (third straight year) and was an NSIC First Team All-Conference Member. Hammer, a Daktronics Inc. Second Team All-Region Player, was named NSIC Player of the Week twice this season as he helped the Wolves reach a #5 National ranking and a #1 ranking in the North Central Region during this season. He was third in the NSIC in assists this season with 4.75 per game and fifth in scoring with 15.4 points per game. Hammer scored a career high 41 points this season in a 103-92 win over Augustana College.
The 20 participants in the all-star game were chosen from a pool of 265 teams in Division II. The all-star team will also attend a brunch before the championship game and a presentation during halftime of the championship game.
