Northern State Remains at #3 in North Central Region for Fifth Straight Week
INDIANAPOLIS - Northern State remained at #3 in the sixth North Central Regional Ranking of 2006. The Wolves are currently 21-4 overall and 9-3 in the NSIC. Regionally the Wolves are 15-4 with two regular season games remaining on their schedule.
The only change in this week's poll was #10 Bemidji State dropped out of the poll and was replaced with South Dakota.
Eight teams from the region will qualify for the national tournament, with automatic bids granted to the post-season tournament champions of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the North Central Conference, and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Of the 10 teams listed in the poll, two are NSIC schools (#2 Winona State and #3 Northern State). The RMAC boasts the most schools in the poll with five (#1 Fort Hays State, #6 Nebraska-Kearney, #7 Fort Lewis, #8 Metropolitan State and #9 Mesa State), while the NCC has three schools (#4 Minnesota State, #5 St. Cloud State and #10 South Dakota).
Northern State is currently ranked #20 in the NABC/DII Coaches Poll, which has no bearing on post-season play. The Wolves will host SW Minnesota State and Wayne State this weekend to round out the regular season. The Wolves will also host a first round game in the 2006 NSIC/Red Baron Basketball Classic on Wednesday, March 1st at 8:00 p.m. in the Barnett Center.
