ABERDEEN, SD – The Northern Sate Wolves improve their record to 2-0 on the season as they defeated the Midland Lutheran Warriors who drop to 1-3 by a score of 78-67. The Wolves dominated the boards as they snared 44 rebounds to the Warriors 26.
Early in the first half the Wolves used a 7-0 run to jump out to a 12-4 lead with 13:37 left. But the Warriors would continue to battle back and used a 6-0 run to make it a 12-10 Wolves lead. The two teams would continue to go back and forth throughout the rest of the first half, with the Wolves taking a 36-31 led into the half.
The Wolves shot 48.3% (14/29) compared to the Warriors 34.5% (10/29) first half. Even though the Wolves shot close to 50% in the first half they only shot 3 of 11 from behind the arc and only 5 of 9 from the charity strip. The Warriors also struggled from the three point line and the free throw line only shooting 4 of 13 and 7 of 13 respectively.
In the first half the Wolves were led by Kevin Ratzsch, Craig Nelson, and Luke Wicks who all had six points apiece. The big man in the middle Robert Thomas had a nice half on the boards as he gathered in seven rebounds. The Warriors were led by Chad Cruise who had 10 points and 3 rebound in the first half.
In the second half Wolves pushed their lead up to ten with 15:53 left in the game. Like the first half the Warriors would continue to battle back and stay within striking distance. But they were unable to mount any runs and the Wolves come away with the victory.
The Wolves were led by Craig Nelson as he poured in 20 points as he went 6 of 11 from the field. Kevin Ratzsch scored 14 points as he went 7 of 11 from the field and Luke Wicks was the only other player in double figure as he scored 10 points.
The Wolves were led on the boards by Levi Hamilton as he snared 10 rebounds. Robert Thomas had 8 rebounds with 7 of them coming on the defensive end.
The Wolves shot 50.8% (30/59) to the Warriors 44.0% (22/52). The Warriors were led by Chad Cruise as he had 20 points and 4 rebounds in the game.
The Wolves will be in action again on Saturday November 18 when they host in state rival the Augustana Vikings at 7:00 pm in WACHS arena.
