Wolves Dominate the Yellow Jackets

ABERDEEN, S.D. –The Northern State Wolves hold their opponent to the lowest point total of the season at 48 points to improve their recored to 8-4, 2-0 NSIC on the season. With the lose the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-8, 0-1 DAC-10 on the season.

Northern State opened up the game scoring the first six points of the game and did not let up the rest of the half. The Wolves had 18 points in the paint to the Yellow Jackets 4, which helped them open up a 25 point advantage at 43-18 at the end of the first half. The Wolves also held a 15-0 advantage in points off turnovers. The 18 points is the lowest point total by a Wolves opponent in a half all season.

The Wolves were led by Kevin Ratzsch as he scored 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting and snared 6 rebounds. Levi Hamilton also had a nice half as he scored 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting. In the half the Wolves shot 63.3% (19/30) from the floor and 66.7% (4/6) from behind the arc.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Forrest Dorr as he scored 6 points on 3 of 7 shooting. The Yellow Jackets shot 25.0% (7/28) from the floor and 15.4% (2/13) from long range in the first half.

The second half was much like the first as the Wolves would outscore the Yellow Jackets 33-30 to take the 28 point win. The Yellow Jackets were able to cut it to as close as 22 points at the 12:34 mark of the second half at 53-31 but poor shooting from the field kept them from getting any closer.

For the game the Yellow Jackets only shot 31.0% (18/58) from the field and 19.2% (5/26) from behind the arc. The Wolves continued their hot shooting as they hit 53.4% (31/58) from the field. The Wolves would continue to struggle from the free throw line as they only hit 58.8% (10/17) of their shots at the charity stripe.

The Wolves were led by Rob Thomas as he recorded a double double with 16 points on 6 of 10 shooting and snarring 11 rebounds. Kevin Ratzsch and Levi Hamilton each had 13 points in the game hitting a combinded 12 of 22 from the field.

The were able to dominate the boards as they grabbed 45 rebounds to theYellow Jackets 33 and only turned the ball over 17 times to Black Hills 20.

The Wolves will be in action again on December 29 when they host Hasting College at 8:00 pm in the Barnett Center.
